Richard B. Cheney, a distinguished businessman and public servant is the vice president. Cheney, a well-known face in Washington politics has worked under four presidents in the United States. George W. Bush is the fourth. Bush appointed Cheney as his vice-presidential candidate in 2000, owing to Cheney's intelligence and judgment. Dick Cheney served as the chief of staff to a president, served as a member of Congress and was secretary of defence. Both Republicans and Democrats admire him for his honesty and integrity. Cheney claims that he sees his role within the administration as one of an open and honest adviser to Bush. When he accepted the Republican vice-presidential nod Cheney declared that he's looking forward to working with an administration that will strive to achieve his goals by engaging across the partisan divide as well as working with opposition politicians to achieve a mutual purpose. Richard Bruce Cheney was born in Lincoln Nebraska on January 30 1941, the child of Richard Herbert Cheney and the former Marjorie Lauraine Dickey. After 13 years of age, old, he moved with his family from Nebraska to Casper within the Western state of Wyoming in Wyoming, where his father ran the local district of soil conservation to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
